Birth through age four of a child's life presents a remarkable opportunity for caregivers to capitalize on literacy potential (Owens, 2016). However, research has shown that caregivers have diverse expectations and knowledge on how to develop children's literacy skills during these early years, which contributes to learning outcomes. For example, children who enter preschool lacking literacy knowledge tend to struggle with reading and writing tasks throughout school. Early learning initiatives are designed to address differences in parenting knowledge and support caregivers of children between the ages of birth and four with the goal of preventing future literacy struggles. This study posits educators as well-positioned to support caregivers with implementing home early-literacy practices since many infants and toddlers have older siblings already enrolled in school systems. This mixed-methods case study addresses a gap in educational practice by exploring a Title I school's proactive approach to connecting early and school-aged literacy development. The study used surveys and interviews to explore caregivers' needs, goals, and perceptions of a family literacy program called "the Baby Club" which engages caregivers, school-aged children, and their younger infant and toddler siblings in language and literacy activities to do at home.
