The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the behavioral concepts of leadership and supervision in the U.S. Federal Government Department of Justice (DOJ) law enforcement organization (LEO) community and assess its relationship with work experiences, agency achievement, and employee satisfaction. Although a limited number of published studies have focused on the domestic law enforcement population, this was the first study to consider the U.S. DOJ LEOs relative to these specific factors. Statistical data analyses, using IBM SPSS, included reliability, correlations, regression (linear and multiple) when results indicated statistically significant findings for all three dependent variables (workforce experience, agency achievement, and employee satisfaction) relative to the independent variables of leadership and supervision. In the absence of a coherent leadership model for law enforcement, the results of this study align with Van Wart's Leadership Action Cycle, a competency-based leadership model (Van Wart, 2003; 2004; 2011; 2013a, b) and public-service leadership framework, offering insights for developing a LEO-specific model. Additionally, it offers evidence of the impact of leaders' and supervisors' behavior on LEO workforce employees, which contributes to a myriad of ramifications and ideas for future research.
