The purpose of this research is to explore whether international organizations and specifically the UN, have been effective in promoting gender equality through the diffusion of women's rights norms. Through a three-stage process, norms are created, accepted, and internalized by actors who intend to deepen democratic values in their countries. Accordingly, via the creation of international laws, with particular attention to gender equality, constructivism highlights the role of IOs, identified as mediators and promoters of international norms of women's rights. Emphasized is the importance of norms and discourse in the international system, which allows for higher levels of gender equality and the empowerment of women in all aspects of life.
