Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with adhoc architectures continue to experience many issues involving the data communication. As the applications of UAVs increase, inter-UAV communication is required to be analyzed and improved by designing more efficient network protocols. In this thesis, we study the performance of the Common Open Research Emulators (CORE) and Extended Mobile Adhoc Network Emulator (EMANE) network emulators for implementing the data link and routing protocols. We present a few static and mobile node scenarios implemented using these emulators, and the real-time throughput performance of the UAV network is analyzed using iperf. In the static node scenario, we compare throughput for various data rates involving serial and parallel flows. We have also implemented a mobility model in a UAV swarm scenario and compare the datagram throughput for two different routing protocols: Open Shortest Path First (OSPF MDR) and Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR).
