The primary purpose of this study was to develop and validate a measure of school psychologist involvement in preschool transition planning. The study had three groups of participants. Six practicing school psychologists were interviewed for the purpose of gathering practical information to complement the theory base. This information was used to generate potential survey items. Next, three experts with at least five years experience in preschool transition planning rated each item for clarity and domain specificity. Items were revised and/or deleted as a result of expert feedback. Finally, confirmatory factor analysis procedures validated the hypothesized model of school psychologist involvement in preschool transition planning. Results confirmed that school psychologist involvement in preschool transition planning is comprised of three factors: consultation with families, collaboration with professionals, and evaluation for eligibility and intervention planning.
