The current study focuses on the concept of resilience and its application to selection and assessment in the military environment. The study of the construct of resilience appears lacking in certain respects: First, while some scholars have referred to conceptual delineations of resilience (e.g. Earvolino-Ramirez, 2007; Windle, 2011), no single study of which we are aware has attempted to empirically examine a broad spectrum of resilience determinants. Specifically, no study has compared the efficacy of unidimensional and multidimensional measurement of resilience. Second, disproportionate emphasis has been placed on measurement and promotion of resilience as a means of preventing PTSD as opposed to promoting adaptive behavior and performance in general. Third, the impact of prior potentially traumatic exposure on performance and adjustment in functional and healthy populations remains largely unexplored, creating a theoretical gap in the literature. Fourth, from an applied military perspective there is a clear need to understand the impact of such exposure on adaptability to future stress. Fifth, against the backdrop of increased demand for selection of resilient personnel in organizations, as well as the need to inform resilience enhancement programs with accurate baseline measurement, there is an emerging need to develop data-driven theoretical knowledge that can inform development of resilience measurement and assessment tools.Objectives: The goal of the present research was to examine the internal structure of psychological resilience and explore its relationship to external measures (e.g. psychological evaluations, peer assessments, command evaluations). This research utilized positive psychological perspectives and empirical tools to improve understanding and measurement of psychological resilience. This goal includes a) comparison of unidimensional measurement of resilience versus separate dimensions of resilience b) creation of a resilience scale which predicts actual performance, c) advancement of theoretical knowledge regarding how past exposure to extreme stress impacts resilience and its measurement in healthy and productive populations.Description of the Study: 1) Identification of relevant resilience determinants (e.g. taskoriented coping, secure attachment, self-efficacy, grit, etc.) through review of the literature on resilience and existing resilience measurement tools; 2) Administration of a questionnaire testing a broad range of resilience determinant measures to 1,533 male Israel Defense Forces combat officer candidates, ages 18-22, within the context of officer psychological evaluation; participants were divided into three separate samples - an Exploratory Factor Analysis sample, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis sample and a validation sample. 3) Gathering psychological evaluations, Big Five measures and Life Events from the Officer Evaluation Center, as well as peer and command evaluations from Officer Training School. 4) Utilization of Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis to refine and construct a new measure of resilience, based upon a medley of resilience determinants; 5) Construct validation of the developed resilience scale against Big Five scores and psychological assessments; 6) Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), conducting a comparison of fit between the Unidimensional Model of resilience versus the Multidimensional Model (social, cognitive, behavioral, emotional) vis-a-vis command performance. 7) As the officer population can be regarded as both healthy and productive, focusing on this population enabled comparison of performance amongst a non-clinical population of varying degrees of potentially traumatic exposure. 8) Predictive validation of the developed resilience scale against command and peer evaluations from officer training.

520 $a המחקר הנוכחי מתמקד בחוסן נפשי ויישומו בתהליכי אבחון ומיון צבאיים. הספרות על חוסן לוקה בחסר ממספר בחינות: ראשית, למרות שחוקרים עסקו רבות באפיון והגדרה של חוסן כמושג, לא קיים להבנתי מחקר אשר בוחן מספר רב של גורמי חוסן במקביל. ספציפית, לא קיים מחקר אשר משווה יעילות של שתי שיטות שונות למדידת חוסן - דרך ממד אחד או דרך כמה ממדים. שנית, הספרות שמה דגש מובהק על חוסן כמאפיין שמטרתו להגן על הפרט מפני תופעות פוסט-טראומתיות, ומתעלם מתפקיד החוסן כמאיץ תפקוד והתנהגות יעילה. שלישית, הבנת השפעתם של אירועים בעלי פוטנציאל טראומטי על תפקוד והסתגלות בקרב אוכלוסיות בריאות ומתפקדות חסרה בספרות המקצועית. רביעית, מבחינה יישומית- צבאית, חשוב מאוד להבין איך חשיפה לאירועים קשים עלולה להשפיע על תפקוד עתידי. חמישית, על רקע הביקוש הגובר לבחירת כוח אדם חסין בארגונים, קיים צורך לפתח ידע מבוסס ניתוח אמפירי על מנת לפתח כלי מדידה לחוסן נפשי.מטרות המחקר: מטרת המחקר העיקרית הייתה לבחון את המבנה הפנימי של חוסן פסיכולוגי ולחקור את הקשר שלו למדדים חיצוניים )למשל הערכות פסיכולוגיות, הערכות עמיתים, הערכות לגבי יכולת פיקוד(. מחקר זה השתמש בפרספקטיבה של פסיכולוגיה חיובית ובכלים אמפיריים כדי לשפר את ההבנה והמדידה של חוסן פסיכולוגי. מטרה זו כוללת א( השוואה של מדידת חוסן כממד אחד או כריבוי ממדים, ב( יצירת מדד חוסן החוזה ביצועים בפועל, ג( קידום הידע התיאורטי באשר לקשר בין חשיפה לאירועים קשים בעבר לחוסן ותפקוד בקרב אוכלוסייה בריאה ופרודוקטיבית.תיאור המחקר: 1 )זיהוי גורמי חוסן רלוונטיים )למשל התמודדות אקטיבית, התקשרות בטוחה, חוללות עצמית, וכו'( באמצעות סקירת ספרות בנושא החוסן וכלים למדידת חוסן; 2 )העברת שאלון הבודק מגוון רחב של גורמי חוסן ל -533,1 גברים מועמדים לקצונה קרבית בצה"ל, בגיל 22-18 ,במסגרת מבדקי קצונה פסיכולוגיים; המשתתפים חולקו לשלושה מדגמים נפרדים - מדגם לניתוח גורמים אקספלורטיבי (EFA , (מדגם לניתוח גורמים מאשש )CFA )ומדגם תיקוף. 3 )איסוף הערכות פסיכולוגיות, שאלוני חמש הגדולות )Five Big) ואירועי חיים )LEC )ממבדקי קצונה, וכן הערכות עמיתים ומפקדים מבית הספר להכשרת קצינים. 4 )שימוש בניתוח גורמים כדי לפתח מדד חוסן חדש המבוסס על גורמי חוסן; 5 )תיקוף מבנה של מדד החוסן שפותח מול ציוני חמש הגדולות ומול הערכות פסיכולוגיות; 6 )שימוש במודלים של משוואה מבנית )SEM )על מנת להשוות את טיב התאמה של מודל שכולל ממד אחד של חוסן לבין מודל שכולל ארבעה ממדי חוסן )חברתי, קוגניטיבי, התנהגותי, רגשי( מול ביצוע כמפקד. 7 )מאחר שניתן לראות באוכלוסיית הקצינים אוכלוסייה בריאה ומתפקדת, התמקדות בה אפשרה השוואה בין רמת הביצוע של אנשים שנחשפו לאירועים בעלי פוטנציאל טראומטי בדרגות שונות. 8 )בדיקת תוקף הניבוי של מדד החוסן שפותח מול הערכות פיקוד והערכות עמיתים ממרכז הכשרת הקצונה. 9 )תיקוף ניבוי אינקרמנטלי של מדד החוסן שפותח וציון חוסן )ממד אחד( מול קריטריון המשקלל הערכות מפקדים ועמיתים, מעבר למדדים של מערכת המיון לקצונה.השערות ותוצאות מבנה הגורמים )השערה 1 :)שוער שיימצא גורם חוסן עיקרי באמצעות ניתוח גורמי אקספלורטיבי (EFA (שיאושש באמצעות ניתוח גורמי מאושש )CFA .)אכן ניתוח ה EFA זיהה מדד חוסן בעל 18 פריטים, שאושש באמצעות ניתוח CFA.תיקוף מבנה של מדד החוסן )השערה 2 :)שוער כי - א. למדד החוסן יהיה תוקף מתכנס ומבחין מול חמש הגדולות; ב. חמש הגדולות ינבאו את רוב השונות של מדד החוסן; ג. למדד החוסן יהיה תוקף מתכנס ומבחין ברמה טובה מול הערכות פסיכולוגיות לגבי התאמה לקצונה. סולם החוסן הראה תוקף מתכנס ומבחין ברמה טובה מול חמש הגדולות וברמה צנועה יותר מול ההערכות הפסיכולוגיות.תיקוף מודל החוסן התיאורטי )השערה 3 :)שוער שלמודל הממד האחד תהיה התאמה טובה יותר מאשר למודל החוסן עם ארבעה ממדים )רגשי, התנהגותי, קוגניטיבי וחברתי( בניבוי תפקוד עתידי. אכן, מודל הממד האחד הראה מדדי התאמה טובים יותר מאשר מודל ארבעת הממדים בכל אחד ממדדי ההתאמה.אירועי חיים בעלי פוטנציאל טראומטי )השערה 4 :)שוער כי א. היסטוריה אישית של חשיפה לאירועי חיים שעלולים להיות טראומטיים תפגע ברמת החוסן של הפרט; ב. היסטוריה של חשיפה לאירועי חיים שעלולים להיות טראומטיים תהיה קשורה שלילית לתפקוד. התוצאות הראו כי אירועי חיים שעלולים להיות טראומטיים נקשרו באופן שלילי לחוסן כצפוי, אך לא היו קשורים ישירות לתפקוד.תיקוף הניבוי של החוסן בהקשר הצבאי )השערה 5 :)שוער כי לחוסן יהיה תוקף ניבוי משביע רצון מול א. הערכות המפקדים בבית הספר להכשרה לקצונה; ב. הערכות עמיתים בבית הספר להכשרה לקצונה וכן ש ג. לחוסן יהיה תוקף ניבוי אינקרמנטלי מעבר לציוני חמש הגדולות ,הערכה פסיכולוגית ואירועי חיים קשים. אכן, מדד החוסן שפותח באופן אמפירי הוכח תקף מול הערכות מפקדים ועמיתים.
520 $a הרגרסיה ההיררכית הראתה כי מדד החוסן החד ממדי שפותח באופן תיאורטי )159 פריטים השייכים לוויסות רגשית - 10-ERQ ,אופטימיזם ,התקשרות, CISS - התמודדות, DRS-15 - עמידות, Grit-S - נחישות, NGSE - עצמית חוללות, LOTR - חוסן - RISC-CD ,כושר פיזית ובריאות - 15-OSES ,תמיכה חברתית, משפחתית וצבאית( הוסיף שונות מוסברת באופן מובהק על חמש הגדולות, הערכות פסיכולוג ואירועי חיים, ולמעשה היה עדיף על סולם החוסן שפותח באופן אמפירי )18 פריטים(. המסקנה העיקרית של המחקר הנוכחי היא שחוסן מומשג ונמדד בצורה היעילה ביותר כממד אחד גלובאלי. מהות החוסן משקפת תחושה עמוקה של מסוגלות אישית. הקשר ההדוק של חוסן למשתני אישיות אחרים מרמז כי חוסן יכול להיות מרכיב אישיותי. ממצאים אלה מקדמים את הספרות הפסיכולוגית בנוגע להבנת המבנה של חוסן נפשי.
