This Master of Fine Arts thesis discusses my current body of work and the impact isolation from the COVID pandemic and University of Tulsa's True Commitment has had on it. In conversation with artists Frida Kahlo, Kiki Smith, and Alina Szapocznikow, my work touches on themes of trauma, memento mori, nature, and bodily preservation through the act of materializing incorporeal memories as a means for coping with the newly narrowed world. This thesis covers the entirety of my graduate school career and the dramatic shift that occurred in not only my artistic direction, but also in my personal life as a result of multiple unexpected events. "Everything Was Beautiful, and Nothing Hurt: An Investigation of Body and Memory" seeks to evoke a melancholic nostalgia for life and its uncertainty through exploration of the fragmented body as a means of preserving and adorning memories.
