Corporate sustainability is becoming more attractive and necessary as companies strive to improve their long-term economic development by merging responsibility and profit. One technique sustainability-oriented companies have been employing is enhancing traceability within their supply chains. Sustainability integration within supply chain management is essential for benefits at both global and local levels because supply chain activities significantly influence green initiatives and social responsibility. Scholars and supply chain managers believe that blockchain technology can benefit and help in enhancing green supply chain management. Forest certification is becoming a significant indicator of corporate responsibility within the wood products industry. Blockchain technology can improve electronic traceability and ensure reliability, transparency, and security for certified raw materials and wood products. One of the significant challenges with tracking and verifying wood is finding affordable and feasible technology to do so. This use case will investigate if wood can be accurately tracked throughout the supply chain to ensure certification integrity. The goal is to develop a technical and economically feasible wood tracking system that will enable Lowe's to strengthen and ensure that their lumber is sourced from sustainable forests.
