The Western philosophical tradition has always emphasized rationality. As an element of control and inertia, rationality has long been regarded as the only criterion for guiding human beings to live a moral life. The lack of attention to emotion and receptivity in Western philosophy makes it an incomplete philosophy. Chinese traditional thinking provides another way for a morally good life. It accentuates the importance of emotion, which can be used as a reasonable basis for moral judgment. In order to further explain the structure of the heart-mind in the context of contemporary sentimentalist ethics and care ethics, the concept of yin-yang in Chinese philosophy has come into our field of vision. In yin and yang, there is an emphasis on emotion and receptivity as a part of the heart-mind structure, which Western philosophy has always lacked. These extra philosophical components from the East will transform the understanding of the rational mind in Western philosophy and inspire us to realize a more complete heart-mind, which is the key to solving the shortcomings of the Western philosophical tradition.
