Self-efficacy is increasingly used as a predictor of health behavior. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of exercise self-efficacy prior to exercise training on exercise behaviors (compliance rate and relative exercise intensity) and how exercise behaviors influence both physiological (estimated maximal oxygen uptake) and psychological (fatigue, anxiety, depression, and quality of life) outcomes after a 12-week exercise training program. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The treatment, a 12-week exercise training program, was executed between pre- and post-test. Exercise self-efficacy was measured prior to training and at the 4th, 8th, and 12th weeks of training. Estimated VO$\\sb{\\rm 2max},$ fatigue, anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QOL) were assessed prior to exercise training and after 12 weeks of training. Compliance rate and relative exercise intensity were computed at the 4th, 8th, and 12th weeks of training. Data analysis was based on the 33 patients who completed the 12-week training program. Results of the study demonstrated that exercise self-efficacy, exercise intensity, and relative exercise intensity continuously increased during the 12-week exercise training program. Compliance rate was high and was maintained consistently throughout the 12-week exercise training period. No relationship was found between exercise self-efficacy at baseline and compliance rate and between exercise self-efficacy and relative exercise intensity. No relationship was found between exercise self-efficacy prior to exercise training and exercise outcomes. However, significant and positive correlations were observed between changes in self-efficacy and improvement of QOL and between changes in self-efficacy and fatigue reduction. Compliance rate was significantly correlated with improvement in QOL and is a more dominant predictor of the improvement in QOL than is relative exercise intensity (at the 12th week of training). In contrast, relative exercise intensity (at the 12th week of training) was significantly correlated with improvement in VO$\\sb{\\rm 2max}$ and is a more dominant predictor of improvement in VO$\\sb{\\rm 2max}$ than is compliance rate.
