The current study was a quantitative design that compared young adults who are introverted, and extroverted, and the amount of time they spend (high vs. low) on Instagram, their overall life satisfaction and levels of connectedness. Participants were recruited using a Facebook account, which provided a link to the Qualtrics surveys if they met the inclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria included young adults ages 18 to 35 years old who have an Instagram account. Participants were then provided with an informed consent that highlighted the study followed by the different scales used (Social Connectedness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and the Eysenck Personality Inventory). This study hypothesized that extroverts with low levels of Instagram usage will report higher levels of social connectedness and life satisfaction. In addition, introverts with higher Instagram usage will report higher levels of social connection and life satisfaction. The results of this study found that self-identified extroverts (M=95, SD=13.2) reported to have a higher level of social connection compared to self identified introverts (M=80.1, SD= 13.8). In addition, the results suggest a greater number of self-identified introverts (M=12.6, SD= 4.6) classified as neurotic compared to self identified extroverts (M=9.97, SD=5.4).
