COVID-19, also known as coronavirus disease caused the outbreak of respiratory illness in individuals throughout the world. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted many individuals including students attending colleges and universities. The unforeseen shift from in-person instruction to distance learning caused many difficulties for students ranging from mental health issues to difficulty in their educational experiences. A review of the literature emphasizes challenges college students have faced during these unprecedent times including challenges with distant learning, the impact of COVID-19, and mental health. Systems Theory served as a framework to understand the importance of considering not only the impact of the pandemic but also considering all sources contributing to the challenges faced by college students including mental health and the transition from in-person to online. This quantitative study seeks to collect data pertaining to the impact of COVID-19 on college students attending Fresno State during the Fall 2020 semester. The data were collected through a systematic random sampling of college students enrolled at California State University of Fresno for the Fall 2020 semester. Most of the findings from this study contradicted previous literature found. However, some findings were consistent with previous literature. Findings from this study indicated that students worried about COVID-19 had higher levels of stress and felt lonelier than those not worried about COVID-19. In addition, students who were tested for COVID-19 had higher levels of stress than those who had not been tested for COVID. The inconsistency in this study's findings in comparison to findings from previous literature highlight the importance for future research.
