The Experience of Transgender Men and Cisgender Women in Romantic Partnerships: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis explores the experiences of transgender men and heterosexual women in romantic partnerships. Overall, the results emerged themes related to culture, gender validation, discrimination, conflict management, "normal" as a concept, gender roles, sexual intimacy, family, and "queer" as an identifier. An exploration of culture results in variations between each member of the couples in which individual experiences and culture shape interactions in their romantic partnerships. It became appropriate to label such couples as "intercultural," in which their defining cultures defined the experience in their relationships. Gender identity as it relates to sexual orientation is discussed in which current literature and language often leaves out such couples.
