Objectives: To examine the associations of pre-season mental health symptoms and visits to the athletic training room and time loss due to injury. Participants: 40 division I collegiate athletes with an average age of 19.45 +/- 1.18 years. 38 participants were members of the Men's and Women's Swim and Dive teams and 2 were members of the Men's Basketball team. 17 males and 23 females, 93% of the participants identified themselves as White. Methods: Depression, anxiety, subjective well-being, and satisfaction with life symptoms were measured at pre-participation screenings with the PHQ-9, GAD-7, MHC-SF, and PROMIS General Life Satisfaction questionnaires. Visits to the athletic training room and time loss due to injury were collected via electronic medical records. Results: For every unit of measurement higher of pre-season life satisfaction, student-athletes visited the athletic training room 12% less and missed 11% less days after time loss injuries. Conclusion: Pre-season positive mental health symptoms are significantly associated with specific post-injury behaviors and outcomes.
