The purpose of this study intended to examine the relationship between personality of taekwondo athletes' and their performance as measured by SAT® Peak Performance, National Ranking, and Grit. A survey was provided and completed by 413 participants that included a demographic survey, the Mini International Personality Item Pool Questionnaire, and the Grit Scale Questionnaire. National Ranking for all participants was provided by USAT through the U.S. National Rankings database system which publishes all results for local, state, national, and international events. All participants used in this study were tested with the SAT® Peak Performance proprietary measure during their individual camps using performance analysis laser timing systems to capture the athlete's overall athleticism through the calculation of a combined power output score taken from each of the following measures of size: height, weight; speed; explosiveness; strength; agility; sport specific technical skill. Descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and multiple regression analysis were used to test for significance between the independent and dependent variables as they were all continuous. The results of the analysis found that Conscientiousness was a significant predictor for Grit Consistency of Interest, Grit Perseverance of Effort, and Overall Grit, and Neuroticism was a predictor for Grit Consistency of Interest and Overall Grit. Additional findings revealed that although Personality was not a predictor for National Ranking, Gender and Experience were predictors for National Ranking, and Extraversion, Age, Gender, and Experience were predictors for SAT® Peak Performance. Agreeableness was not a predictor for any of the Dependent Variables studied.
