Depression is a chronic mental condition that affects how a person behaves, acts, and feels. The condition is associated with adverse events comprising increased risk for heart disease, diabetes mellitus, stroke, hypertension, cancer, obesity, and mortality. The disease burden in the US linked to depression has been attributed to increasing medical expenditure to about $99 billion annually. This project has been designed to investigate the impact of using aerobic exercise to manage depression symptoms in adults aged 18 to 65 years within eight weeks. The frameworkof a single-group pretest and posttest study design with quantitative analysis was used to develop the project activities. A PHQ-9 questionnaire was administered before and after the implementation of the intervention to measure the level of depression. The results of a sample paired t-test run to compare the difference in the mean pre- and post-intervention PHQ-9 scores showed that there was a statistically significant reduction in the levels of depression in participants; t(28)= 13.184, p =.000 within the 95% CI [6.29, 8.61]. Therefore, an intervention program involving aerobic exercise is effective for managing depression in adult patients diagnosed with MDD.
