TikTok is an extremely popular video sharing and social networking service that has exploded into the mainstream across the globe. The TikTok application, which is available for use on iOS and Android devices, was created by the Chinese company, ByteDance, and released in September 2016. This research paper will document the file structure analysis of the videos that have been uploaded and published to the platform and downloaded from the application; TikTok videos can be created on an iOS or Android device and uploaded to the application or from within the application itself. The findings from this research will be useful in understanding the file structure of TikTok videos; both uploaded and published to TikTok and created natively within the application. This analysis will also give the forensics community more insight on what information is added and removed from videos created using a mobile device and then uploaded to the TikTok application. This research will help with the video authentication process for forensic purposes. To conduct this study, iOS and Android devices will be used to create the video media and the media's file structure, metadata, and binary data will be examined and analyzed.
