The reading process is a collaboration of basic skills including the understanding that letter sounds make up words and words have meaning in text. Reading skills need to be taught in sequence. To motivate children to read, teachers should implement online tools to engage the reader and create fun ways to learn. The purpose of this study was to determine if using online tools motivate students to read and increase fluency and sight word recognition. The results of the study found that online tools are one method that is effective in increasing student reading fluency, sight word recognition, and motivation to learn. Students increased their reading by at least level from the pre to post running record assessments as well as increased by an average of 21.5% in their sight word recognition. Overall, students showed an increase in motivation due to the use of online tools.
