This multi-method research study focused on the effects of using narrative art therapy and coloring pre-drawn mandalas to lessen caregiver stress. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2019-2021, this study was conducted via internet video with 20 self-identified caregivers who participated in two sessions over a span of seven days. Using a narrative inquiry approach, participants were encouraged to talk about their experiences and emotions as primary caregivers to someone with MCI, Alzheimer's, or other dementia. The qualitative aim of the study was to capture the experiences of the participants (N = 20) who disclosed during two semi-structured interviews their pre-drawn mandala artwork and verbalized their experience. The occurrence of disclosure is described through content and structural analysis, using quantitative data gathered via pre-test and post-test measures from the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) and the New General Self-Efficacy Scale (NGSES). The findings presented show that participants experienced a lessening of stress they described as calming, meditative, and relaxing. These findings have relevance for both caregivers and art therapy practice in general. Keywords: Alzheimer's, anxiety, art directive, art therapy, BRCS, Brief Resilient Coping Scale, burnout, calm, caregiver, coloring, dementia, mandala, MCI, mild cognitive impairment, narrative therapy, NGSES, New General Self-Efficacy Scale, relaxing, relaxation, stress.
