Fusion demonstrates the combinations of art glass and ceramic forms. Electric fired pieces that incorporate art glass pays homage to light, space, color and illusion. Using glass in two and three-dimensional ceramic objects creates texture and transparency to ceramic objects not otherwise obtainable by traditional firing methods. Glass begins as an amorphous solid and transforms under heat to a shape based on its gravitational alignment and textural surroundings. Conversely, clay begins as a semi-liquid mass and under heat transforms into a solid mass of mullite and other crystals. What the artist is trying to accomplish with his work is a parallel to natural deposits in the earth where molten materials of the earth create geodes where there is a ceramic and glass fused into one another to create spectacular three-dimensional natural illusions and shapes. As with geodes, the ceramic exterior must be broken and illuminated to reveal the gem inside and to illuminate the beauty that formally laid hidden. Fusion seeks to re-create a part of this primordial act of nature into forms that incorporate the magic of glass, light and earth.
