English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) learners continue to face practical obstacles toward mastering prosody, or suprasegmental features of English pronunciation. These difficulties stem from a general neglect of prosody training in ESL/EFL teaching and a shortage of tools available to the learners for the purpose of self-study. To remedy this shortage, the ShadowTalk mobile app has been developed. The app employs the technique of shadowing and provides ESL/EFL learners with custom-made recordings to help them to develop natural rhythm, syllable stress, prominence, and intonation in English. In the eyes of ESL/EFL teachers and graduate students who provided their feedback on the project, ShadowTalk achieves the project's goal of creating an effective tool for the self-study of prosody. However, the app's current design and functionality limit the practical usability of the app to the more advanced proficiency level and self-motivated of learners.
