In the state of Texas, the Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has consistently created initiatives to bring Texans closer to the completion of a post-secondary program; this includes certifications and degrees that include marketable skills like Automotive Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Welding. In the past 4 years, THECB has ventured into a continuation of their Closing the Gaps by 2015 initiative and has entitled it 60x30TX; meaning 60% of Texans between the ages of 24 and 35 will have a degree or certification by the year 2030 (THECB, 2015). The goals of the initiative have been instituted at 2- and 4-year institutions in the state of Texas. This study focuses on the career and technology fields of Automotive Repair, HVAC, and Welding. There are limited empirical data available pertaining to community college certification programs over an extended period of time. The purpose of this study was to provide empirical evidence pertaining to certification programs including Automotive Repair, Welding, or HVAC certification from a north Texas community college over a 5-year period that could be useful in future program leadership decisions.
