Thesis (Ph.D.)--Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2021.

This dissertation argues that house churches in China should adopt Southern Baptist distinctives, with an emphasis on regenerate church membership, to increase doctrinal integrity which defends against false teaching and maintains stability through church discipline. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis, historically analyzes the house church movement and discusses the current context of house churches in China. Chapter 2 examines three larger house church branches and how they provided the blueprint for modern house churches in China. Chapter 3 evaluates the Cultural Revolution because of how it changed China's political trajectory, thereby ushering in the political and religious atmosphere which Chinese churches currently find themselves. Chapter 4 discusses the Southern Baptist Distinctives and argues that Chinese house churches should adopt them. Chapter 5 presents issues for further research and study.
