The purpose of this work is to analyze the problematic portrayal of female figures in two Mexican films by Alfonso Cuaron: Y tu mama tambien (2001) and Roma (2018). I will examine how Cuaron shapes and presents his female characters' identities as they attempt to emancipate themselves and self-actualize from the hold imposed on them due to societal constraints, such as stereotypical gender roles, class differences, and the domestic spaces that they inhabit. In order to establish this connection, I have supported my work with Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory and Kimberle Crenshaw's intersectional feminism. While Cuaron is known for his feminist filmography, this critique will offer a different take on his female figures to identify the problematic ways in which he has represented them.

520 $a El proposito de este trabajo es analizar la representacion problematica de figuras femeninas en dos peliculas mexicanas de Alfonso Cuaron: Y tu mama tambien (2001) y Roma (2018). Examinare como Cuaron da forma y presenta las identidades de sus personajes femeninos a medida que intentan emanciparse y autorrealizarse a partir del control que se les impone debido a restricciones sociales, como los roles de genero estereotipicos, las diferencias de clase y los espacios domesticos en los que habitan. Para establecer esta conexion, he apoyado mi trabajo con la teoria de la mirada masculina de Laura Mulvey y el feminismo interseccional de Kimberle Crenshaw. Si bien Cuaron es conocido por su filmografia feminista, esta critica ofrecera una vision diferente de sus figuras femeninas para identificar las formas problematicas en que las ha representado.
