This paper examines several arts organizations that have employed or used street art as a tool to increase or attract new audience members. The goal of this thesis is to obtain a better understanding of the definition of street art, its current audiences, and how organizations can use street art to increase the size and diversity of their audiences. Interviews were conducted with key staff members of Mural Arts Philadelphia, The Richmond Ballet, The San Francisco Opera and The Seattle Opera. These interviews were done in person, through email and over the phone. They were then transcribed, coded and analyzed. Overall, findings suggest that arts organizations, specifically performing arts organizations are using street art as a way to catch the attention of younger audiences members who would not normally engage with these organizations. Further research is recommended to determine if these new audiences members were retained for future performances and events.
