Metacognition is the thinking process that helps learners to comprehend, to direct, to evaluate, and, lastly to guide their own thinking. In the field of foreign and second language teaching and learning, this subject is an area of interest by researchers and educators because research has shown that metacognition positively influences students' language learning processes. Considering the impact and importance that metacognitive knowledge has, this topic is a strategy that can be integrated in the foreign and second language teaching and learning processes because of the influence metacognition has on students' performance. A practical handbook has been designed with the purpose of offering an alternative learning tool for ESL adult learners in order to overcome demanding tasks and make the most of their language learning. Language learners will find metacognitive strategies that they can use by themselves for the purpose of learning English and tracking their learning progress and improvement. The tools and strategies of the handbook help students to think about their reading and writing processes and to implement the activities as a means to improve these language skills.
