The purpose of this qualitative, descriptive study is to explore how female head coaches described their lived experiences of coaching male high school tennis players. It was not known how female head coaches describe their lived experiences of coaching male high school tennis players. The theoretical frameworks used in this study were the theory of occupational sex-segregation (Kanter, 1977) and the Ecological-Intersectional Model (LaVoi, 2016). The following research questions were used in this study: (1) How do female head coaches of high school male tennis teams describe experiences of barriers and challenges? (2) How do female head coaches of high school male tennis teams describe experiences of success? (3) How do female head coaches describe their experiences with coaching in a male-dominated system? (4) What are the female head coaches' experiences of coaching high school male tennis teams? The study included 13 female tennis coaches from a state high school tennis coach organization. The study used a qualitative methodology with a descriptive phenomenological design. The researcher utilized a semi-structured interview with 10 questions. The researcher analyzed the data using Braun and Clarke's six-step process. The researcher identified nine themes including the coaches' interactions with athletic administrators, other coaches, and their players. The results of this study found improvement in the lives of female high school tennis coaches that coach male players, however more work is needed to discontinue the perpetuation of marginalization of this gender in coaching.
