This paper will evaluate a study conducted by Colleen Palmer on teens' interpretations of the program 13 Reasons Why series one. This study is qualitative in nature and deals with the interviews of several teenage girls and how they related to the show after having watched it independently or with adult engagement. The study looks at their interactions with the main themes presented in the program: rape, suicide, and bullying. The purpose of the study is particularly geared toward understanding their response through reader response theory and understanding both their media literacy and their social-emotional literacy through media literacy theory.
