This research project is concerned with creating a holistic conflict management education for clergy who serve in a church setting to reduce the number who leave ministry due to burnout and stress over conflict. Conflict management curricula are plentiful and have been used to educate the clergy on how to better manage conflict within the context of church ministry, but none address the importance of the body. Through a six week class, this research project was designed to study how the martial art of Aikido can be used to educate clergy about their bodies amid conflict and how to manage conflict holistically. The post research project results were positively in favor of using traditional martial arts as a somatic tool for teaching self-management in conflict as clergy experienced their whole self in the midst of resolving conflict.
