This master's project focuses on the need for elementary school counselors nationwide, while emphasizing the way in which trauma in children can continue to worsen drastically if not faced with any form of intervention, especially at a young age. Through research, it has shown that having school counselors work in elementary schools at any capacity, shows positive results all around. It is a goal of this paper to help reduce the stereotype that elementary aged children do not endure any trauma simply because they are so young, yet through the research in writing this paper, it could not be further from the truth. Elementary students would all benefit from having a school counselor working in their school, as mental health is a critical component to the success of these young children, who are the future of this nation.
