Mid-sized companies require capabilities and new technologies that may be out of their reach in the way of pricing and talent acquisition. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one such technology that larger corporations are taking advantage of in order to gain competitive advantage. The purpose of this study is to look at AI from the aspect of Business Intelligence (BI) and through the lens of Resource-based View (RBV) to ascertain the impact that AI is having on companies. A new model for the implementation of AI into everyday business activities is presented which is supported by data collection from mid-sized companies throughout the eastern United States. The data is analyzed, and the results presented. Results showed that mid-sized and small companies in the sample are looking at AI but not implementing the technology due to cost and the lack of internal expertise. The study is examined for short comings and a path for future work is outlined, which includes increasing the population and determining financial impact of training.
