Students with disabilities have a difficult time staying on task while reading. These students exhibit symptoms of anxiety and express frustration when completing independent reading tasks, which leads to low levels of reading confidence. Students that do not have adequate skills or abilities to read and comprehend text have a hard time with academics and furthermore choose to avoid reading activities. The purpose of this research project was to explore the impact therapy dogs have on student's in the school setting, specifically their time on-task behavior, reading confidence and reading fluency.
