When leaders no longer can rely on face-to-face interactions to lead effectively, their leadership behaviors influence the decisions, communications, and relationships among an organization's workforce. Knowledge sharing is a set of individual behaviors involving sharing work-related knowledge and expertise with other members to contribute to its ultimate effectiveness. The theory of responsible leadership involves a leader's ability to interact while being trusted, empowered, and responsive to building relationships to guide organizational outcomes. The current mixed methods sequential exploratory research study focused on investigating the responsible leadership concept of knowledge-sharing behaviors and differences in behaviors among healthcare professionals. The primary research question was: In terms of generational collaboration, to what extent is knowledge shared among e-leaders and virtual workers? A total of 102 healthcare professionals completed questions from the Socially Responsible Leadership Scale (SRLS) and the Knowledge Sharing Behavioral Scale (KSBS). Results showed significance in the relationships between collaboration, a consciousness of self, and change. Results showed statistically significant correlations (p < 0.05) between collaboration, a consciousness of self, and change. Of the relationships, a stronger positive correlation existed (r = 0.650) between collaboration and change. Quantitative results showed a positive association between virtual team collaboration and knowledge sharing among leaders and virtual workers. The qualitative data corresponded with quantitative data analysis results and supported leadership development in a healthcare organization. Finally, the open-ended survey's qualitative data provided a narrative to support the firm's responsible leadership theory and knowledge-based theory.
