My poems are frequently spaces of discovery for the body, how we each move through and mark and are marked by this world around us, this world we both confront and simultaneously are a part of. My poems, that is, exhibit a type of phenomenological ecology: thinking about how we contact and constitute a space, a place, a culture, a history, a region, an ecosystem-how we find ourselves a part of and participating in ever larger cycles of living and being. My poems often attempt to synthesize various metaphors for this earthly engagement. These include Merleau-Ponty's idea of la chair-flesh-as that which both connects, touches, all living things while also identifying their discreteness, and more recent thinking about ecology and the experience of living in a body in an interconnected world, such as Timothy Morton's concept of the Mesh, that great entanglement we cannot fully perceive for its vastness, yet like the curve of the earth can intuit, can began to locate with the right perspective. Like a fractal, no matter how deep we zoom in or how far we zoom out, the patterns of history, the pattern of ecology, of all life, flora and fauna and bacteria and fungi, possibly prion and virus, it is all the mesh.
