Ever since Computer Mediated Communication came into existence in the 1970s, researchers have used it as a tool to examine the language use for communication in virtual space, social media and more. With the constant development of society, language and gender study in different contexts merit to be conducted. The thrust of this research, therefore, was to examine variation in language use as related to gender issues using the new media (computer mediated communication) as the data of the study. The data collected for this study were purposively selected and were subjected to analysis using the Gender Based Analytical Model which is the fusion of: Deficit, Difference and Dominance theories. A total number of thirty (30) samples were obtained, divided into fifteen (15) each for both male and female WhatsApp users. The finding revealed that male and female WhatsApp users have some peculiarities that are gender determined. These peculiarities include the choice of topics, the use of assertiveness or lack of it, and the use of hedges or lack of it, etc. The study concluded that studies on the influence of gender on language use have tendency to generate different results as culture differs from one place to another. It also affirmed that the more patriarchal a society is, the more the tendency for linguistic difference and dominance.
