Studies show that self-compassion tendencies are associated with attachment dimensions, most of which have focused on Caucasian participants, most who are of middle socio-economic status, and from the U.S. The purpose of this non-experimental quantitative study was to investigate relationships between attachment dimensions and degrees of self-compassion among Mexican Americans, while accounting for the influence of acculturation. Among the major results were: (1) attachment anxiety and avoidance were negatively correlated with self-compassion tendencies, and (2) acculturation had no influence on the impact of insecure attachments and self-compassion tendencies. Other findings from post-hoc analyses (e.g., a comparison between the obtained mean scores and mean scores from Raque and colleagues' (2011) study with predominantly Caucasian participants) as well as clinical implications and suggestions for future research focusing on Mexican Americans are presented and discussed.
