The growing prevalence of obesity during childhood is associated with a number of negative consequences in children's lives. By improving children's diet and school environments, policies and systems, children may have improved nutrition and physical activity behavior and decreased risk for obesity. A secondary data analysis was utilized to determine how the amount of nutrition education coaching by Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) nutrition professionals is associated with environmental, policy and system nutrition and physical activity changes. This study also investigated the qualitative barriers to coaching. With the rise of childhood obesity, it is important to investigate strategies that will encourage positive nutrition and physical activity environments, policies and systems while recognizing cultural differences in children.
