This study seeks to contribute theoretically and practically to the field of arts management. Specifically, it explores issues in opera management. In particular, it examines a clearly identified understanding of the opera canon as one of the key issues for the opera managers today in their struggles to overcome the communication issues of the opera performance. The contemporary opera audience has different demands regarding the perception of the operatic show. It is a challenge for the opera manager to create a proper program strategy in order to secure both the traditional opera goers' enjoyment, and at the same time, to attract a new audience.
