Rural communities in South Carolina rely on manufacturing as a primary source of income, so advances in technology can affect manufacturing and the related employees in these communities, which have relied on manufacturing for financial stability for generations. With the creation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, automation poses the greatest threat to these communities as it can devastate them beyond repair. As automation becomes more efficient, manufacturing processes will follow suit and eliminate all wasteful efforts. Consequently, many rural communities will never be the same after the development of automation.
