Essentrics as an exercise protocol has been purported to enhance flexibility, strength and have an effect on body composition through a series of choreographed movements. These exercises are purported to enhance functional mobility and maximize eccentric contraction. This study is an experimental study that analyzed the effect of a ten week exercise period of Essentrics in undergraduate students by examining the variables of flexibility, strength and body composition using sit and reach, functional movement screen shoulder mobility test, leg and chest press and DEXA scan, respectively. Pre and Post means for leg press, sit and reach and lean muscle mass were 98.1 kilograms and 106.3 kilograms, 39.1 centimeters and 42.0 centimeters, 45.8 kilograms and 46.3 kilograms, respectively. Therefore, significant findings were noted with increases in flexibility, lower body strength and an increase in lean mass. Essentrics is comparable to other exercise protocols like yoga, pilates and tai-chi using the body in weight bearing exercises and movement training. Future studies involving other age groups specifically older population is recommended.
