Physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) are valued services in rehabilitation and habilitation in healthcare for people with neurodegenerative diseases (Freburger & Conrad, 2002). Publications on therapeutic approaches and outcomes for PT and OT for patients with Huntington's disease are scarce and usually have small sample sizes (Rao, 2008). A secondary data analysis performed from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) included randomly selected inpatients with Huntington's disease (N=230). This current study examined patients admitted for falls compared to patients with HD admitted for other causes such as pneumonia, psychiatric crisis, or other medical issues. The researcher reports on types of therapy OT and PT provided, amount of therapy, level of severity, length of stay, and outcomes at discharge using descriptive statistics and nonparametric analysis. Results indicate falls correlate with the level of cognitive impairment and multiple psychiatric diagnosis, ( p ≤.001). Few procedural codes indicated patients with HD received OT or PT services. Keywords: Huntington's disease, occupational therapy, physical therapy, falls, inpatient, HCUP.
