The purpose of this paper was to propose a primary prevention counseling group to be delivered in schools to young adolescent girls who are navigating identity development in an increasingly online world. The ability to interact through a virtual format has created a culture of presenting the most highly curated and selectively presented aspects of the self on social networking spaces such as Instagram. A review of the literature documented narrative therapy coupled with expressive arts therapy as a suitable approach to treating this topic and population. The proposed 8-week group was designed to support adolescent students in challenging societal standards of female beauty, critically analyzing the social networking interaction culture of likes and comments, and re-authoring their identity narratives to empower young adolescents to present more authentic online identities.
