The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore how students, faculty and support program staff perceived the influence that student support services had on students' academic success at three community colleges in the state of Oregon. The study used Human Capital Theory and Attribution Theory to explain the value of student support services on the academic success of student. How do community college students, faculty, and support program staff perceive student support systems as influencing academic success? The population of interest consisted of students, faculty, and support program staff, which were selected for the research. The target population consisted of 3 community colleges in the state of Oregon. The study sample consisted of 10 students, 5 faculty, and 5 support program staff. These individuals are from many different backgrounds. The study used a qualitative methodology with interviews and questionnaires to analyze perceptions of student support services in a typical community college setting in Oregon. Data were compiled and categorized using an open-ended questionnaire, a review of the raw data, thematic development from the raw data, and inductive analysis to analyze and revise apparent themes and trends. Overlapping themes were analyzed and a determination for how the overlap could be applied to modern leadership practices. This finding supports that forming relationships with CCSSS providers, such as tutors, contributed to reducing students' academic anxiety, making interpersonal relationships between students and support staff important to students' academic success.
