This ethnographic case study explores the relationships cultivated between the Japanese American and Muslim-American grassroots activist communities that took place after the Muslim ban was enacted on January 27th, 2017. In the summer of 2018, over the course of three months, I conducted twelve in-depth interviews with members of the Japanese American and Muslim American grassroots activist communities who organize against Islamophobia. The purpose of this study is to explore how these activist communities come together in solidarity with the Muslim American community to fight state endorsed Islamophobia. This study provides an in-depth analysis of the intergenerational, cross-identification, and cross-cultural coalitional organizing against the Muslim ban.
