Employee health and job satisfaction are concerns for employers because of the impact they have on organizations' bottom line. To improve employee health and increase levels of job satisfaction, employers spend billions of dollars yearly on design, implementation, and management of physical wellness programs, yet motivation to participate in physical wellness programs have been low. Self-determination theory (SDT) is the theoretical framework used in this study because SDT recommends the incorporation of basic psychological needs (BPN) in physical wellness programs to increase motivation to participate (Deci & Ryan, 2000). This quantitative correlation study explored the relationships of physical wellness programs with BPN, motivation to participate, and job satisfaction. The results of this study indicated a statistically significant relationship amongst physical wellness programs with BPN, motivation to participate and job satisfaction.
