This study aimed to gain knowledge about the impact of growing up Christian on the identity development of African-American/Black gay men. Research on Black men focuses on religion, family, incarceration rates, DL phenomenon, and mental health. Research on Gay and Black gay men have been limited to quantitative work when referring to Religion, but other works are on HIV rates. This study utilized the phenomenological approach to code and categorize data. The researcher gathered descriptions of Black gay men's experiences in the Christian church from childhood to early adulthood. The researcher gathered information based on messages each participant internalized and experienced in the church. Participants participated in a semi-structured interview where they provided information on their experiences in the Black Christian church. Implications provides recommendations for further research and training surrounding Black gay men's identity development.
