This dissertation evaluated the relationship between practicing mindfulness and employing coping mechanisms to predict mental fatigue experienced among workers performing repetitive tasks. The population for the study included adults working full-time in employment that required repetitive tasks over an extended period. Participants were not limited to those who engaged in manual labor as some engaged in more mental labor such as accountancy, transcription, and radiography. The participants worked as individuals, in teams, or in groups. A multiple regression analysis was employed to evaluate the relationship between mental fatigue scores, mindfulness practice, and coping mechanisms in order to answer the research question, does practicing mindfulness and using coping mechanisms predict mental fatigue in workers performing repetitive tasks? Findings of the study indicated there was a statistically significant correlation between mental fatigue and mindfulness. Those who indicated they employed mindfulness practices also had lower mental fatigue scores. This study provides evidence that mental fatigue could be predicted by mindfulness practices. Motivation researchers and those researchers who study employee behavior, work environment, work design, and task and job analysis would also benefit from the results of this study as the results may be directly applied or used in further research studies. Although there is a plethora of research on mental fatigue, mindfulness, and coping mechanisms individually, the psychological community and industrial and organizational psychology could benefit from further research on the relationship and of these constructs together.
