The purpose of this project was to develop a biblical theology of worship for Victory Baptist Church in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. The church came about as a result of a church split within the Green Hill Baptist Church. While the major issue surrounding the church split was staff leadership at the former church, style of music became the scapegoat. From its beginning in June 2000, Victory struggled to have freedom in worship. The pain associated with the loss of a church home lingered even as the new church was forming. While the mercy of God extended to this group was evident, the past hurts led to a determination within many to maintain a church with a traditional style of music at all costs. Eventually the fears over instrumentation and style of music started to impact the effectiveness of the church in reaching the community around it. The church needed to face its fears, seek God's face, and follow His direction. In an attempt to develop a biblical theology for worship at Victory Baptist Church, the researcher reviewed a number of resources available on the subject of worship to assist him with this project. Meetings were held with church leaders to discuss the issues associated with worship. A weekend worship workshop was led by Paul Clark, Jr. the Director of Worship and Music Ministries for the Tennessee Baptist Convention. A series of sermons on biblical worship were prepared and preached. With a desire to measure the attitude toward worship, a selected focus group was asked to respond to a questionnaire. While a more developed theology for biblical worship is needed, the impact of the project on the church as a whole was a blessing.
