The manufacturing industry has become increasingly competitive and, therefore, some manufacturing companies have transformed to a servitization business model, in which not only products but also services are offered. The specific problem is that several manufacturing industries remain to be studied to discover the potential commonalities in successful servitization implementation which could potentially provide direction for companies that are implementing a servitization business model. Therefore, the research focused on data collection from manufacturing companies that had not previously been studied, namely the craft brewing and craft distilling industries. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to expand the servitization body of knowledge to further understand how manufacturing companies successfully transform to a servitization business model. The research questions were as follows: (a) How do manufacturing companies approach the successful implementation of a servitization business model? and (b) how are manufacturing companies that have successfully implemented a servitization business model similar? The conceptual framework used was Oliva and Kallenberg's (2003) servitization model. A qualitative exploratory single case study research methodology was utilized to study companies in the manufacturing industry that have successfully implemented servitization and analyzed common contributors to the successful implementation. The participant pool consisted of 10 participants from either the craft brewing or craft distilling industry. Data were collected through semistructured interviews, direct observation, and document collection, which led to data triangulation. The data collected were uploaded into QSR's NVivo 12 software for analysis. The findings showed 3 different servitization implementation strategies were used: no strategy, incremental, and preplanned, of which preplanned produced superior results. The findings also showed that the participants experienced similar themes relating to challenges and successes. The findings from the research study contribute to the business problem and the servitization body of knowledge.
