The purpose of the qualitative phenomenological study was to understand how elderly individuals, aged 60-85, in the Midwest described their lived experiences with healthcare services examining the quality of care, the accessibility of healthcare, and the level of patient participation. The Donabedian (1966) quality framework and the person-centered care (McCormack, 2003) model were used to guide the three research questions: (1) How do elderly individuals, aged 60-85, describe their lived experiences with the quality of care received from healthcare services? (2) How do elderly individuals, aged 60-85, describe their lived experiences with the accessibility to healthcare? and (3) How do elderly individuals, aged 60-85, describe their lived experiences with their involvement with healthcare services? The study was conducted to broaden the understanding of elderly individuals' perspectives of their lived experiences of healthcare services. Data collection included face-to-face interviews and consisted of the Moustakas Modified van Kaam Qualitative Data Analysis process. The following three themes were created from the result of the study: (1) Expressions of Interactions with Physicians, (2) Expressions of Interactions with Clinical Offices, and (3) Expressions of Having United Connections. This study is significant because it gives a voice to the elderly population during a critical time of rapid increase in the aging population. The findings of this study could serve as a guide that will assist clinical workers and caretakers in developing updated information that are inclusive of insightful strategies that will support the enhancement of quality healthcare services for a frail and vulnerable population.
